The Kieler Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW) is the largest German shipyard.
The company is known today particularly for it's class 212 A submarines which it built in co-operation with the Nordseewerke Emden. The shipyard is also active in the civilian shipbuilding sector as a builder of container ships, among others.
