PackBot PC based Virtual Reality Robotic Vehicle Simulation
The PackBot robotic vehicle was developed to investigate and dispose of dangerous objects such as suitcase bombs, so-called Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). Precise vehicle control is required to be able to implement such a proposition reliably. This demands practice.
The training scenario that has been developed looks like this: the vehicle is a faithfully detailed 3D model in a virtual training environment, e.g. in an aircraft or a building. The vehicle exhibits realistic handling through the physicalisation of the model.
The program is controlled using the original operating equipment connected to the PC. The simulation includes all vehicle functions, i.e. driving, arm rotation, grasping function, camera and lighting.
