Desktop VR
= virtual reality (VR) implemented with standard PC hardware
In desktop VR, the virtual environment is displayed on one or more computer screens. Users can move through the desktop VR using standard input devices such as mice or keyboards, or specialised devices such as steering wheels and gear sticks. This form of display and interaction affects users’ immersion (the sense of being surrounded by the virtual reality environment) and presence (the sense of being present in the virtual reality environment).
Groups of desktop systems can be both linked (team training system) and combined with full simulators or tracking systems.
The advantage of desktop VR is that it is significantly more affordable and flexible than a full simulator.
