Smiles all around for szenaris and DEKRA

Last week saw szenaris GmbH once again demonstrate the high demands it places on the quality of its work. The “SMILE” quality assurance process developed by szenaris helped to make the DEKRA reaudit a very enjoyable experience.
szenaris has held its DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 certification for a year now. Modifications and improvements made to the entire business process have resulted in visibly increased operational efficiency and the enhanced quality of the software produced. These results were confirmed by DEKRA again this year.

“It does take a lot of effort to keep a constant eye on all our processes and continually improve them. However, our achievements over the last year and our success in passing the reaudit have convinced me and the whole team that this is exactly the way we need to go on working,” said quality management representative, Birgit Neumann.
You can find more information about szenaris GmbH’s SMILE principle in the next szenaris Letter on 19 March 2012. Subscribe to our Letter today and share a smile with us!

How innovative learning scenarios are successfully applied in companies

The “Professional eLearning” symposium is one of the highlights also of this year’s didacta education trade fair. Uwe Katzky will report on the successful application of virtual worlds for the training of operators of highly complex appliances, systems and vehicles on February 16th, 2012.
The “Professional eLearning” symposium aims at persons responsible for training and education in companies and universities as well as trainers and anybody interested in e-learning. It will be held from February 14th through 16th in the Convention Center of the Messe Hannover.
The question if innovative learning scenarios in companies are rather an exception or already the rule will be surveyed in section F of the symposium. Uwe Katzky will vividly demonstrate with various examples how virtual worlds made by szenaris GmbH are already auspiciously in use in companies. You are more than welcome to join this lecture!
Lecture topics:

Operation and maintenance of highly complex appliances, systems and vehicles – successfully imparting knowledge in virtual worlds

Date and time:

February 16th 2012, 3:15 to 3:45 pm

Location:

Convention Center, Messe Hannover

Globally networked learning

Serious Games were a focus of the LEARNTEC 2012. In this year, a games user forum has been established and a platform called “GAMES@LEARNTEC” has been created to facilitate an active exchange between users and manufacturers.
The iPad has become an exciting medium for innovative learning in a worldwide network. We have picked up this fact and offered a lottery drawing for an iPad 2 at our exhibition stand as a special surprise for this year’s LEARNTEC visitors. The lucky winner of the drawing on Thursday is Mrs. Irina Otto from Crailsheim.
With 200 exhibitors, substantial contributions on the corollary congress and more than 6,000 visitors, the 20th LEARNTEC has been a thorough success. We are already looking forward to the LEARNTEC 2013, for which we have already registered again.

Simulations reduce CO2 emissions by 98 %

Using our simulation systems for training purposes does not only help to save original equipment, reduce accident risks and save money. This training method also “quite incidentally” reduces lots of CO2 emissions.
We have calculated this, using the example of the simulation for the “Improved Ribbon Bridge” (IRB), which is in use at the German Army:
To build a medium-sized bridge with the original system, four motor boats and four trucks are required, which consume approximately 360 litres of Diesel fuel per hour altogether. If you multiply this value with 2,630 grams of CO2 which are emitted per litre of burned Diesel, it sums up to almost one metric ton of CO2 per system operation hour.
If the bridging engineer team uses the simulation instead, there also is CO2 emitted for the generation of the required electric current. However, the almost 25 kilowatts consumed by the simulation system multiplied with 520 grams of CO2 per kilowatt hour which are emitted by average when generating the electricity equals only slightly more than 12 kgs of CO2 emissions per operating hour. This is less than 2 % of the emissions caused by the original system.
If you want to reproduce this calculation example, here are the values our calculation is based on:
