Actual locations – rapidly integrated into virtual reality

The ability to create highly accurate and realistic 3D constructions for use in virtual environments is extremely important for many szenaris customers. The required scenarios must be of high quality while also providing a good cost-benefit ratio. But above all, they have to depict real training and exercise grounds as realistically as possible.
These considerations present the starting point for the “Reality to Virtual Reality” (R2VR) procedure developed by szenaris. Laser scanning and panorama cameras are used to measure and analyse the environment with high precision. The resulting point clouds are transformed into wireframe models and developed into complete 3D models, which can then be used in virtual reality applications.
This end-to-end procedure, from data recording to completed 3D model optimised for use in virtual environments, is currently unique. It is approximately 60% faster than conventional methods, and enables szenaris to offer a wide range of scenarios for virtual training courses affordably and at high quality.

High quality standards of szenaris re-certified

szenaris has held its DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 certification for two years now. The quality management system introduced as part of an overall optimisation of our business processes contributes significantly to increasing quality and enables us to manage and shape our company in a manner that will secure its future in the face of constantly changing circumstances and requirements.
The second DEKRA re-audit has again confirmed the high standards of quality at szenaris. We are particularly pleased to report that the audit log contained only minor recommendations for improvements. szenaris quality manager Birgit Neumann was clearly satisfied with the result: “It’s great to work in such an excellent team. A well-implemented QM system has no need to fear an audit.”
One thing is certain: szenaris will not rest on its laurels — we are constantly enhancing our quality concept and potential so we can continue to offer our customers optimal products and services in the future. ...

With almost 200 exhibitors, over 6000 visitors and a large number of interesting, creative booths and talks, LEARNTEC 2013 can already be considered an early highlight of this year for the e-learning industry.
Under the heading “Future Learning”, this year’s LEARNTEC focused in particular on the trends of mobile, games and social learning. Other highlights included several innovations in the fields of blended learning, virtual classrooms and 3D training environments.
The szenaris booth was very busy during the trade fair, providing the opportunity for interesting discussions and facilitating numerous new contacts. With over 200 entrants, our prize draw was also a great success. The winners are:
1. Prize, iPad Mini: Silvia R., Stuttgart 2. Prize, Google Nexus 7: Mathias Weiss, Freiburg 3. Prize, Kindle Paperwhite: Wolfgang Roller, Karlsruhe
Congratulations to the winners! We’re already looking forward to LEARNTEC 2014.

Why big isn’t necessarily better

More and more people are coming to the conclusion that innovations are not driven by the big companies. It’s true – small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are often the ones that have the brilliant ideas. Why is that?
What promotes creativity and innovation is spontaneity.
You have an idea. Now imagine a large company where hierarchies must be observed and formal procedures followed. Don’t you think your idea might easily get lost in those channels?
SMBs undeniably face a wide range of challenges. But when it comes to creativity and innovation, the advantages are obvious:

A broader horizon: a small business will not have an expert for every topic. Employees often work across diverse fields. This is precisely where innovations frequently originate.
Flat hierarchies and direct communication channels: SMBs are subject to fewer restrictions resulting from rigid organisational structures. In addition, separate divisions are often located in close physical proximity to each other. If an idea “sparks” up, its implementation can usually be discussed immediately with the appropriate specialists.

We as an SMB experience these advantages every day, and of course these conclusions encourage us to continue offering you creative solutions for computer-based learning.

szenaris is exhibiting at this year’s LEARNTEC again. The trade fair which is located in Karlsruhe has been the central location for meeting and networking of e-learning service providers and stakeholders in the vocational training area for more than 20 years now. 200 exhibitors from 11 nations present innovations from training, learning and IT. Among many other topics, this year’s LEARNTEC, which has been given the motto “Future Learning”, focuses on mobile, games and social learning.
szenaris presents current products and the latest developments from the areas of e-learning, training software and simulation, including a training software for tablet PCs on occupational safety and service check-in for automobiles. szenaris invites anyone interested to a trial session for an e-learning situation analysis in which the corporate demand for further education and the potentials of e-learning for the qualification of employees will be analysed. Furthermore, the “Practice-Oriented 360° E-Learning” is presented in cooperation with Panolife.
In the “Digital Human” project, a behavioural control for digital human models in simulations which reacts to the user’s actions in real-time has been developed. Moreover, Dr. Uwe Katzky will answer the question “How real can artificial worlds be?” on 29 January 2013 at 2:50 pm in the customer forum.
Visit our booth E13 from 29 – 31 January.
